like a girl.

   why are you crying like a girl?

why are you running like a girl?
why are you screaming like a girl?
using gender as profanity.
she somehow becomes less than he.
a letter more, but worth less.
her anatomy becomes nothing more than a symbol of sexuality.
she becomes a toy, for little boys.
little boys.
silly little boys.
so careless, so reckless.
but she doesn’t ever speak up.
she is scared.
scared that she will prove them right by acting like a girl.
so she ‘man’s up.
takes her heart off her sleeve.
but the screaming still goes on.
this time, inside her head.
rivers flow from her eyes every night.
and she runs away from problems instead of facing them.
why are you crying like a girl?
why are you running like a girl?
why are you screaming like a girl?
using gender as profanity.
she somehow becomes less than he.
a letter more, but worth less.
